Big Bore Series — full-size 18×30 IPSC in 3/4″ AR500. The full-size silhouette, built for .50 BMG and magnum rifle. Ninety-six pounds of 3/4″ AR500. Made in the USA.

Pick your finish: Surface Rust ships in the steel mill’s factory red-oxide primer and costs less. Painted comes finished in white so your hits show. Same American-made 3/4″ AR500, same shape, same rating either way. Paint or primer, the finish lasts exactly until your first shot.

  • 18″ × 30″ silhouette × 3/4″ AR500 · ~96 lb
  • 3 × 9/16″ square mounting holes (2 at the shoulders, 1 center) · deburred; Surface Rust or painted
  • Ships FREE — the freight on this 96-lb plate is built into the price.
  • Bring friends along for the ride: add any other targets to a full-size order and they ship free too — it all rides the same freight pallet.

About the “Surface Rust” name: that finish ships in the steel mill’s factory red-oxide primer — the reddish-brown protective coat the plate comes with from the mill — instead of our painted finish. The finish has no effect on hardness or rating.

⚠ .50 BMG / magnum safety: greater minimum distances than standard rifle — long-range only, confirm a safe distance for your caliber. Never armor-piercing, incendiary, steel-core, or green-tip ammo. Eye protection required. Use at your own risk.

Questions & answers

What size is it, and how much does it weigh?

About 18″ × 30″ (IPSC 100%), about 96 lb, in 3/4″ mill-certified AR500 steel.

How far away do I need to be?

Big Bore targets are long-range only: at least 300 yards for lead-core, copper-jacketed .50 BMG and brass solids, and at least 400 yards for brass solids in .416 Barrett and .408 CheyTac. Those are minimums: confirm a safe distance for your caliber and velocity, and when in doubt, shoot farther. Big-bore hits wear steel faster than smaller calibers, so inspect the plate after every string.

What calibers is it rated for?

It's 3/4″ AR500, half again as thick as our standard 1/2″ line, built for .50 BMG, .416 Barrett, .408 CheyTac and other high-power rifles at long range.

What ammo should I never shoot at it?

Never armor-piercing (AP), API/incendiary, tracer, SLAP or steel-core .50 BMG; a single round can crater the plate. Never steel-core, armor-piercing, bi-metal jacket, incendiary or green-tip (M855/SS109) ammunition. These damage the plate and can ricochet whole instead of breaking up. Run a magnet over surplus ammo first: anything magnetic stays off steel.

How should I hang it?

Mounting holes: 3 × 9/16″ square (2 at the shoulders, 1 center). Big Bore plates are heavy (this one is about 96 lb), so hang it from rated chain or hangers on a stand built to take the swing. Never lean a big-bore plate against a rock, post or berm.

What's the difference between Surface Rust and Painted?

Only the finish. Surface Rust ships in the steel mill's factory red-oxide primer, the reddish-brown protective coat the plate comes with from the mill, and costs less. Painted ships in our paint so your hits show. Same steel, same rating: the finish has no effect on hardness, and paint or primer only lasts until the first shot anyway.

When should I retire it?

Inspect it before every session and after every string. Retire any plate with craters, pitting or deep gouges, or one that has been hit with the wrong ammo even once: damaged steel deflects unpredictably.

Is it made in the USA?

Yes. Every target starts as American mill-certified AR500 plate and is deburred by hand and finished in an American fab shop.

Does it ship free?

Yes. Orders of $99 or more ship free in the lower 48 states, and this one qualifies on its own. To Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories most $99+ orders still ship free, but pieces too large for a standard mailing box travel as heavy ground freight; your cart shows whether your order qualifies before you check out.

Can I return it?

Unused, unfired targets can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the purchase price; you pay return shipping. Targets that have been shot can't be returned. If your order arrives damaged, email photos within 48 hours of delivery and we'll replace or refund it.
